Privacy policy

Specula collects no personal data. The app has no account, no server, no telemetry and no advertising. It queries the services you host yourself, from your device, and sends nothing to the developer or to any third party.

None. We receive neither your email address, nor your IP address, nor the list of your services, nor a single usage statistic. There is no Specula server for such information to be sent to.

That covers the app. The website you are reading does measure its audience: the “This website” section below says what it records.

Everything you configure stays local:

• the addresses, names and groups of your services;
• your API keys and credentials, kept in the Keychain — never in a backup, never on iCloud;
• your outage and notification history, and your display preferences.

This data is shared between the app and its widgets through an app group on your device. Deleting the app erases it.

Specula opens two kinds of connection, and nothing else:

• Your services — at the addresses you entered or imported, generally on your local network or through your own VPN. Your API keys are sent to those machines, and to them alone, to read their metrics.
• Service logos — fetched from the public cdn.jsdelivr.net CDN (the open-source dashboard-icons project). That request carries only the name of the requested logo, never your addresses or your keys. You can turn it off: Settings → Icons → Service logos.

Alerts (service offline, disk almost full, temperature) are computed and displayed locally by the device. No remote notification service is involved.

The app is not directed at children and collects no data concerning them.

What follows concerns the specula.dev website, and it alone: none of this section applies to the app, which remains free of telemetry of any kind.

The website measures its traffic using PostHog, hosted in the European Union, whose calls are routed through our own domain rather than theirs. The following is recorded:

• the pages you open and leave, your reading language, the page you came from;
• your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and the country inferred from your IP address;
• your clicks, along with their position on the page;
• a replay of your browsing: the content displayed and your movements within the page can be reconstructed and watched;
• technical errors encountered and page loading times.

A cookie makes it possible to recognise you from one visit to the next. It expires after thirteen months. Your IP address is used to infer a country but is attached to none of the data kept. This information is neither sold, nor used for advertising, nor cross-referenced with any other processing.

To opt out: turn on your browser's “Do Not Track” setting. This site honours it and then stops measuring you altogether. A content blocker or your browser's private mode has the same effect.

Since the app holds no data about you, we have nothing to disclose, correct, export or delete on request. Your rights under the GDPR are exercised directly on your device, by changing or deleting the app. The website's audience measurement, for its part, cannot tie any visit to a person.

Any change to this policy will be published on this page, with a new update date.
